Safety equipment is also very important. You will want to have a helmet, as well as elbow and knee pads. Make sure that the helmet and the pads fit properly so that they will provide you with ample protection. You can also find skateboard shoes that can help you grip the board better.
If you have a friend who skates, you can ask him or her for some advice on different brands as well as what you should choose. You can also check online reviews and forums to see what types of gear others are raving about and what to avoid.
With only a few pieces of skateboard gear, you will be able to get started, but you will probably spend a lifetime making adjustments to and fine tuning your board!
