Global Mapper software is a phenomenal tool for many different purposes and types of projects, offering a widely encompassing database and some pretty remarkable date processing powers. The software is designed to pull and compile thousands of files per second upon user prompt with a search term. From here, the process can remain automatic, to be edited and mulled over later, or it can be a completely manual process. This depends upon the user, as the software is much easier to use once the user is given ample practice time. What one can do with the satellite maps is yet another wonder all to itself.

There are countless features that this software utilizes in order to give the user the exact results that they are looking for, a loose listing of which include view shed analysis, contour generation from surface data, cut and fill volume calculations, image rectification, feathering, spectra analysis, elevation querying, line of site calculations, distance and area calculations, terrain layer comparison, and countless other features which take the common satellite map or generated impression and turn it into an accurate, precise, and beautiful finished 3D map. As the user becomes more familiar with the program, they may notice that most of these features are completely functional either on their own or with specialized tasks.

Satellite maps can be extremely detailed and in very little need of additional information, unlike many aerial photos, which are also invaluable but do require a great deal of added information in order to make for a finished product. These are not concerns with Global Mapper software, as this program has every resource available for finding and/or calculating precise information regarding every square inch of the planet. The finishing touches are another great feature, as the user can add graphics, digital displays, 3D elements, and vivid color to each piece.
